What the cohort analysis tool does
A cohort is a group of customers who made their first purchase in the same month. This tool shows how many of them come back, month by month, so you can see whether your repeat business is growing.
How to use it
Upload your order export. The tool gives you a retention heatmap, revenue per customer and plain-language insights. Read across a row to see how one month's customers behave over time, then compare rows to see whether newer cohorts hold on better or worse than older ones.
What to look for
A drop after the first month is normal. Watch whether later cohorts retain better than earlier ones and whether revenue per customer is rising or falling. If repeat rates jump only in months when you ran big discounts, check how much of your repeat business depends on offers.
Frequently asked questions
What is a customer cohort?
A group of customers who share a starting point, usually the month of their first order.
How is this different from a repeat purchase rate?
A repeat rate is one overall number. A cohort view splits it by first-purchase month, so you can see both the timing and the trend.
What data do I need?
An order export that identifies the customer and the order date. Read the related article for how to act on the results.
